Loran Foundation is delighted to invite application from international students for the 2019 LORAN Scholarships in Canada. The Loran Scholarships For International Students is sponsored by the Loran Scholars Foundation in partnership with universities, donors and volunteers across the country. It is the country’s largest and most comprehensive four-year undergraduate scholarship to young Canadians. Selection for the scholarship will be done on the basis of character, service and the promise of leadership. See below for further details.

The Loran Scholars Foundation was founded in Toronto in 1988 as a national charitable organization awarding scholarships for students entering university in Canada. They receive the country’s huge undergraduate merit award in terms of character, commitment to service and leadership potential. The foundation selects up to 34 students each year for an undergraduate scholarship with a total value of $100,000.

Candidate selection

The Loran Scholar selection process is rigorous. The selection process is as follows:

  • Close to 2,500 nominees come as sponsored candidates, with endorsements from their schools.
  • More than 2,500 candidates pass through the direct pool (self-nomination). The application of each candidate is evaluated by the national assessment panel and telephone interviews are conducted with semi-finalists in December.
  • About 34 persons are selected as Loran Scholars. In addition, finalist ($5,000) and provincial ($2,000) awards are offered to up to 104 candidates.

The Loran scholarship is for undergraduate programs. It is awarded in any field of study chose by the student in Canadian university. It is to be taken in Canada. Scholarships are awarded to Canadian and international students

Scholarship Benefit:

The scholarship can be renewed for up to four years, with a total value of $100,000, each Loran Award includes:

  • An annual stipend of $10,000
  • Tuition waiver from one of 25 partner universities
  • Personal mentorship from a Canadian leader
  • Access to our network and up to $10,000 in funding for summer internships in three different sectors
  • An orientation expedition through Algonquin Park
  • Annual retreats and scholar gathering


Eligibility Criteria for High School Students

  • Be in your final year of uninterrupted full-time studies in high school.
  • Present a minimum cumulative average of 85%.
  • Hold Canadian citizenship or permanent resident status.
  • Applicant must be at least 16 years of age by September 1st of the following year.

Eligibility Criteria for CEGEP Students

  • Be in your final year of uninterrupted full-time studies in CEGEP. If you have the intention of attending university outside of Québec after only one year of CEGEP, you can apply in your first year of CEGEP.
  • Applicants must present an R score equal to or higher than 29.
  • Hold Canadian citizenship or permanent resident status.
  • Applicants must be at least 16 years of age by September 1st of the following year.
