We all make mistakes and encounter setbacks. It’s how we overcome them that matters. To help your child develop their resilience and a positive mindset, there are several things you can do. Below are some tips that were shared with us by a private school in Hertfordshire.
First Hand Experience
First of all, children need the chance to actually develop their resilience which involves encountering problems and setbacks of their own. While you may want to jump in and help, they will need the opportunity to work things out for themselves.
Reassurance
Your words can also help your child to get through difficult situations and give them the motivation to keep going.
Set a Good Example
What you can also do is make sure that you’re setting the right example for your child. As their parent, your child respects you a great deal and looks up to you for guidance, so it’s important that you face up to problems and deal with them head on.
Healthy Communication
Communication is a vital everyday skill that children need to develop, but also, they must feel comfortable in talking to others as sometimes we require help from others to overcome our obstacles.

Journaling
Journaling gives children an outlet to deal with their emotions and difficulties, and in turn can help them to be resilient. They can document how they’ve been getting on and navigate their problems better.
What Else Can I Do?
A simple thing that you can do is ensure that your child has a good routine in place. Routine helps children to develop resilience as it gives them set activities to complete and instils a sense of normalcy during difficult times. Things that contribute to a good routine are sleep, diet, regular mealtimes etc that you should aim to keep consistent.
